On a distant island a long time ago, the story of Gormiti begins... The magnificent Island of Gorm was once inhabited by peaceful, nature-loving people. They lived peacefully under the guidance of The Old Sage, keeper of secrets and magic, in their village at the foot of Fire Mountain, a massive, dormant volcano that had never threatened the peaceful island... until now. One day Fire Mountain showed its fierce nature by exploding through the earth and into the air. The once green and lush land transformed into a black, burnt, desolate waste area. From the ashes rose strange creatures, molded from the heat of the lava and led by Magmion, lord of Magma. These creatures of fire were called the lords of Magma and Magmion craved the souls of the defenseless Gormiti. The prediction was coming true. "From the deep, dangerous creatures were rising. They would sweep the land, the good would then return and battle a fate worse than extinction." So the story begins. This game, newly imported from Europe, is a battle for domination of the land, sea, and air, by creatures who have been divided into five elemental armies: Earth, Forest, Sea, Air and Fire. Each creature comes with a card describing their abilities, and gameplay is as simple as adding the number from the card to the number on your creature's foot. Your battles can also be enhanced by adding playsets, which feature moving parts, traps and more, to aid you in your attack and defense. Many of the figures come blind-packed, further enhancing the collectibility of this line. Each 4 Pack comes with 4 Figures and 4 Trading Cards.

If your child is already a Bakugan fan, the Battle Pack is a good investment. This set comes with six randomly selected Bakugan and eight magnetic cards. Exciting Magnetic Action The Bakugan come in lots of colors and varieties that make them fun to collect and trade. Most of them are pocket-sized and easy for your child to carry around and bring over to their friend's houses. Having a magnet that activates the warriors is a clever idea that adds excitement to the game. The Bakugan Launcher (sold separately) is a great accessory, with three shooting modes ("curve," "angle, and "distance"), but it doesn't come with any instructions. Room for the Imagination We like that this that this game combines skill (aiming your Bakugan) with strategy (placement of the cards). We also enjoyed the way the warriors pop open on the magnetic cards -- although sometimes they do it even when they don't land on the cards. Being unfamiliar with the TV show, we felt a little lost at first in the world of Bakugan. But with the help of the colorful, animated Bakugan Web site, we got the gist of what the game is about and how to play. Our attempts to fire the launcher proved somewhat difficult and instructions would have helped. But the launcher isn't necessary.
